EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE Softball will take part in the University of Georgia tournament next spring thanks to generous Cougars supporters.
Using a crowdfunding project for the first time, SIUE softball eclipsed their goal of $10,000 in 15 days June 16-30. The program generated a total of $10,475, helping to offset the Cougars' cost to participate in the tournament.CrowdFunding advertizing
"We had alumni and friends of the program step up financially," SIUE Head Coach Sandy Montgomery said. "We have had a tremendous amount of support in the past and that has continued."
Crowdfunding generates awareness and interest while giving supporters the opportunity to help the program. SIUE supporters donated $5,475 via the Cougars' page on crowdfunding site Razoo.com, while a private donation of $5,000 also was received.CrowdFunding marketing
"I'm very appreciative of (SIUE Senior Associate Athletic Director Jason Coomer's) creativity and what his team did with the campaign," Montgomery continued.
The Softball team will face tough competition from highly-rated programs at the tournament during the 2015 season.Kickstarter Marketing
"We need to play those teams and play in the south in February," Montgomery said. "You're going to face those big teams when you get into the Regional. The opportunity to play those teams and play on that stage was a huge plus for our kids."
The program was designed to build on the success of the 2014 team, which won the school's first Ohio Valley Conference championship, and earned its first bid to the NCAA Division I tournament.Indiegogo Marketing
"I think everyone sees that (SIUE softball) can compete at the Division I level and on a national stage," Montgomery added. "Everyone loves a winner and we want to continue to bring that success to the University."crowdfunding websites
