HIALEAH (CBSMiami) – Crowd funding has raised millions of dollars for charities and noble causes.  Now, it’s being used to fund personal causes and life events–like weddings.Steve Max Caballero and Denisse Montero are getting married and using a GoFundMe.com widget on their wedding website to raise money for the big day.

“We don’t have the money for the wedding and we don’t know where it’s going to come from,” said Denisse.CrowdFunding advertizing

“We’re only going to be able to have so many people at the wedding because of the cost associated with it,” said Steve, a Minister at a church in Miramar. “We don’t have family that can help us like that.  We’re doing it by ourselves.”

They started TheMaxWedding.com and are asking their family and friends to click to give.CrowdFunding marketing

“Don’t worry about buying us a toaster, or bed sheets or anything like that, go and give us a gift on the GoFundMe page,” said Steve.

The couple is hoping to raise about $4,000 by their August 2nd wedding date.

“We have over 200 shares already,” said Denisse.Kickstarter Marketing

In theory, anyone who visits the page can donate, not just friends and family. GoFundMe.com takes five percent of total given.

“It gave our family an easy route to just click here, put in a credit card info, it’s safe and secure,” said Steve.

The website is based in California.  It’s raised more than $310-million dollars for personal causes, like Steve and Denisse’s wedding, since it was started in 2010.Indiegogo Marketing

“You can’t be prideful about asking for help,” said Steve.  “It’s not that you’re asking for help simply because there’s a need, you’re asking for help because you’re giving people the opportunity to be a part of what you’re doing,  and that’s what’s magical about this.”crowdfunding websites
