A fully-featured app designed to manage the mechanics of pen-and-paper RPGs allowing you to focus on what matters: playing the game.

About this project

The City of Brass is a fully-featured web app designed to manage the mechanics of pen-and-paper roleplaying games, allowing you to focus on what matters: playing that game

We bring together your characters, monsters, NPCs, setting, adventure, and campaign, allowing you to easily manage all these elements in a single location, from any device, anytime, and for any game system!

  • Create characters, creatures, and NPCs with Entity Builder.
  • Build your setting quickly and easily with World Builder
  • Write your adventures using Story Builder.
  • Run your game and talk to your players with Campaign Manager.

But that's not all you'll find in The City of Brass. We also have:

  • stock art library with over 100 images right now from characters, to locations, to scenes!
  • Dozens of stock maps for you to use in adventures and encounters.

Any Device. Any Game.

The City of Brass has been designed to work with any game system and on any device. It doesn't matter if you like to use your phone, tablet, computer, IOS, Windows, Mac, whatever, they all work. All you need is a web browser and an Internet connection.

We've been using The City of Brass in Alpha for about a year, and it's time for a short Beta before launch. Your pledge gets you access to our Beta and, depending on your choice, up to a year's subscription to The City of Brass after launch.

The timeline is subject to change. We'll begin our early Beta as soon as possible, but expect we'll need about 60 days after the Kickstarter. The Beta itself will not be shortened, but it may be extended. If it is, your pledge during this Kickstarter secures you continuing access to The City of Brass for as long as we stay in Beta. If your pledge includes subscription time, that time will begin 30 days after Beta ends (everyone gets 30 days of free access to The City of Brass).

Want to help out a little more? Choose from any of these extras and simply add that amount to your pledge. After the Kickstarter is finished, we'll send out a survey to sort out your addons.

Last year we published our first module, The Book of Terniel. It's a Pathfinder Roleplaying Game compatible adventure. You can get it on DriveThruRPG or nab it here a little cheaper.

The City of Brass includes a stock rules library where we can load up elements such as equipment, spells, and feats for Open Game Licensed systems. As we surpass our funding targets, we'll get these added into our system and commit to having it completed before the end of beta.

If we bypass $20,000, we'll keep going with new stretch goals, but additional elements will probably require more time than our beta period to complete.

We are not looking for money to fund the development of The City of Brass. We have already spent the last year doing that. Funding is required to cover costs that will be incurred as we bring additional users onto the system.

Here's some more videos and information about The City of Brass.

*The Pathfinder video was recorded during early Alpha before Characteristics were renamed to Traits.

Your Resident is your public face in The City of Brass. It can be anything you like, your name, your favorite character - it doesn't matter. Below is a screenshot of a Resident profile page. If you opt for the Custom Title addon, your title will go on the page where I have included red text.

Risks and challenges

The City of Brass has been in development for over a year and we've been doing Alpha testing for months. We will launch this product, but hope to have your help to do so smoothly.

Our biggest risk is timing. We feel like we've got a good timeline laid out, but it is possible that we'll uncover something unexpected during beta, which could delay our production launch. If that happens we'll keep you posted, and all of you with Beta access will enjoy a little extra time for your support during the Kickstarter.
